If you’re looking for search engine optimization tips then you’ve come to the right place…chances are you actually found this webpage when searching for that very phrase (“search engine optimization tips”) in Google, Yahoo or some other search engine.
The first thing you need to understand is that there are two main parts to search engine optimization (SEO):
1. On Page Search Engine Optimization
2. Off Page Search Engine Optimization
Each of these two aspects is important and needs to be dealt with in the right way in order to rank at the very top of good for your target search term.
Let’s get started with on page search engine optimization tips:
Your Page Titles and Keywords
The very first thing you need to get right are your page titles and keyword selections. This page targets the keyword “search engine optimization tips” and as such I’ve made sure that this phrase is used in my page title, my page description, and my page keywords.
On Page Keyword Density
Make sure you use the target keyword around 1 % of the time. This page contains approximately 800 words and I’ve used my target keyword (“search engine optimization tips”) 8 times. This is ideal. You should also make sure you spread your target keyword across the page, don’t use it 5 times at the start of the page and 0 times at the end (for a 500 word article)…spread it out evenly like I’ve done on this page.
Unique Content
If any of the information on your page is directly copied from another website, it’s considered to be “duplicate content” in the eyes of Googles robots. Duplicate content doesn’t rank well and you should have nothing but unique content on your website in order to get best results.
Link to Other Useful Websites
Google likes it when you link to other useful content from your website as this provides your visitor with more useful information. Make sure the pages you link out to are useful and Google will give you a little boost in the rankings.
Include a Video on Your Page
Video is becoming more and more important these days and by placing a useful video on your website you stand automatically increase your stickability as people will stay on your site longer (as long as the video is interesting and related to what your visitor wants).
Those 5 search engine optimization tips will have most bases covered as far as on page SEO is concerned…what you may not realize however is that off page SEO has far more impact on your rankings than what you control on your website.
In a nutshell, off page search engine optimization is link building. The more links you get pointing to your website, the better your rankings will be. There are a few simple things you need to get right in order for links to be valuable:
Choose the Right Anchor Text
Anchor text is the name given to the text which is used to link to your website. In the case of this particular page, I want to rank #1 in Google for the keyword phrase “search engine optimization tips”. When I’m building links to this page I make sure that the vast majority of them link to this page using that anchor text. Build “Do Follow” Links
A “do follow link” is simply a link that passes on its power (think of a do follow link as passing on a vote), to your website. When people build websites they have the option of making links “do follow”, or “no follow” – the links you need to move up Google rankings are do-follow links, Google gives no value to links coming to your website that are no-follow.
